Handicraft Jewelry in the Mediterranean
Earrings from Ancient Budva
The Ancient Necropolis of Budva dates from the 5th century B.C. It belongs to the Greco-Illyrian and early Roman history. Judging by the exhibits, the life of the former inhabitants of Budva abounded in refined and decorated handicrafts. This is evidenced by the exhibition of the Archaeological Museum in Budva, a special section of which is dedicated to the collection of Hellenistic gold jewelry. The most frequent Hellenistic motif is the insertion of semi-precious stone ornaments (amber, granite, glass paste) into the golden thread, thus complementing the jewelry.
Especially interesting are the earrings with the representation of ox heads made of gold and granite, which date back from the 4th-3rd century B.C., the Hellenistic period.
Montenegro Post, within the edition „ Euromed Postal Handicraft Jewelry in the Mediterranean
Earrings from Ancient Budva”, publishes a commemorative stamp and the first day cover.
